Last night the washing machine stopped working and gave an error code with indicated a water supply problem. We checked all the faucets and noticed the water pressure was decreasing and suspected the large elevated water tanks were empty. Since it was bedtime, I shut off power to the geyser (hot water tank) to prevent the heating elements from burning up should all the water drain out.

At the break of dawn, it could be seen that the tanks were empty. So, no showers this morning! I returned the wheelbarrow, now emptied of firewood, to Tobi. He hadn’t noticed the lack of water, because they live a little further down the hill. He opened the control panel in the building under the water tank and the contactor to power the pump was working. We then walked across the property to the well. Power was measured there, but it was discovered that all three wires (start, run, and neutral) coming from the submersible pump measured 230 vac. This indicated to us that the neutral was open in the pump controller. Since TWR does not have a spare controller on hand, Tobi and I headed to the transmitter site and Steve called the pump company to bring a new controller out to Singing Pines.

Khumalo and I ran a test wire (shorter length this time) from the start position of the key switch to the solenoid coil of the starter. This time the solenoid pulled in and the starter worked nicely, without the small relay that a previous owner had jury rigged into the circuit. I left it to Khumalo and one of his crew to properly connect and run the wires.
Tobi asked me for some advice about one of TWR’s towers that was used to relay programs from the downtown Manzini office to the transmitter site. With the moving of the office to Singing Pines, that tower is no longer needed. It is located at the top of a hill on the Pierce family farm (Thelma Pierce plays the accordion at church. Although the building at the bottom of the tower has been emptied of radio equipment, the presence of the tower ‘invites’ burglars to break into it anyway. We plan to stop by on the way home this evening to determine what special equipment might be need to take it down.
Virginia got a WhatsApp message (with photo and video) that Snowy the cat, was finally picked up at the airport and with the Kimbers in the UK. It’s hard to tell whether the cat, or their girls, were happiest!
It’s 3pm and Steve just let us know the water pump is working, but cautioned us that it would take time to fill all the water lines and even longer to fill the water tanks. But there is now water, and we won’t have to leave wet clothes in the washing machine or dirty dishes in the sink when we leave tomorrow!!

This day’s blog is being published early afternoon, as we will be busy getting everything ready for an early morning departure to Tendele Camp in South Africa. Your prayers will be greatly appreciated as we travel there tomorrow and back on Friday, as the roads are not as safe as they have been. There is no wireless there and poor cell service, so there will be no blogs and little, or no, other communication until we get back on Friday.
