We did try to ignore some barking dogs at the houses.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Now, back to original challenge of the broken shift linkage!\u00a0 We decided to go home and see if we could somehow get it repaired.\u00a0 Because another car had parked in front of ours, it was now not possible to drive out forward.\u00a0 We set the parking brake extra tight and Virginia stepped on the foot brake just to be safe.\u00a0 We started the car and I reached under the open hood and shifted the transmission lever into reverse.\u00a0 We then released the parking brake briefly to reverse just enough to be able to drive out going forward. Using the same method as before, I shifted the transmission lever into drive, closed the hood and drove the ten miles back to the apartment.<\/p>\n<p>Since Joel had repaired this problem before, I had him show me how to get the gear lever console open.\u00a0 The bushing, that he had repaired last month, had completely disintegrated. It is not on the chart that we have of Guam&#8217;s wildflowers.\u00a0 We think it might be an introduced, invasive species called rattleweed.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Driving south in Merizo on Route 4 we noticed a hand written sign with an arrow to &#8220;Tinta&#8221;.\u00a0 Thinking this might be a sign pointing to the Tinta massacre site, we turned left, just past the Shell station, onto Espinosa Ave.\u00a0 About 150 yards down this road we saw a similar sign pointing to the right.\u00a0 This was a driveway passing an abandoned house on the left and ending at the garage door of a newer home, that had a &#8216;For Sale&#8217; sign on it.\u00a0 We felt uneasy about going into someone&#8217;s driveway.\u00a0 After someone at the Shell station confirmed that this was indeed the right place, we returned and parked in the front yard.\u00a0 We could see a trail leading off to the left of the house and followed it.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1540\" style=\"width: 826px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mcguirereport.mcguireclan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/140719-Tinta-Trail.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1540\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1540\" src=\"https:\/\/mcguirereport.mcguireclan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/140719-Tinta-Trail.jpg\" alt=\"The trail had recently been mowed fot the 70 anniversary observation.
