{"id":1788,"date":"2014-10-27T12:41:58","date_gmt":"2014-10-27T17:41:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcguirereport.mcguireclan.org\/?p=1788"},"modified":"2014-10-27T12:41:58","modified_gmt":"2014-10-27T17:41:58","slug":"18-october-2014-saturday-mcguireport-letter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mcguirereport.mcguireclan.org\/?p=1788","title":{"rendered":"18 October 2014 &#8212; Saturday &#8212; McGuiReport Letter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since it was Saturday, we did not set the alarm clock and slept in til about 8am.\u00a0 I think we are still feeling the aftereffects of jet lag, but at least it is not keeping us up in the middle of the night!<\/p>\n<p>We got an early call from Tobi at the transmitter site.\u00a0 He was there dealing with the same transmitter that gave trouble last night.\u00a0 It appeared to be having multiple problems.\u00a0 I would have liked to have gone out to help, but was unable to do so.\u00a0 Although we have a vehicle, there are now two more remote controlled gates on the route (making a total of three) and I do not yet have the remote controls or cell phone clearances required to open them.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually Tobi found a faulty optical arc detector in the VHF (very high frequency) filter.\u00a0 He also found a screw had fallen into a relay and was blocking it from pulling in.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the day we spent working on our McGuiReport for November.\u00a0 With the internet connection here being so slow, it has been difficult to accomplish much in the evenings towards getting it ready for proofreading, then publishing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mcguirereport.mcguireclan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/141017-Fireplace.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1790\" src=\"https:\/\/mcguirereport.mcguireclan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/141017-Fireplace.jpg\" alt=\"141017 -- Fireplace\" width=\"816\" height=\"549\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mcguirereport.mcguireclan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/141017-Fireplace.jpg 816w, https:\/\/mcguirereport.mcguireclan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/141017-Fireplace-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 816px) 100vw, 816px\" \/><\/a>Toward evening, it cooled off enough that we were getting goosebumps, even inside the house, so we built a fire in the living room fireplace.\u00a0 We did not come to Swaziland (which is supposed to be approaching summer) prepared for such cold nights in October.\u00a0 The temperature was in the 50s F &#8212; low 60s F in the house.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since it was Saturday, we did not set the alarm clock and slept in til about 8am.\u00a0 I think we are still feeling the aftereffects of jet lag, but at least it is not keeping us up in the middle of the night!
