Awana is held on the lower level on Thursdays.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Today, being Father&#8217;s Day, was observed in a special way at the Evangelical Bible Church.\u00a0 During testimony time, a young father stood up and said that he was a &#8216;loose cannon&#8217; and an &#8217;empty tin&#8217; (made a lot of noise, but not much inside) when he first came to the church, but now he was an &#8216;overflowing tin&#8217; because of the teaching at the church.\u00a0 You could tell that many were moved by his candid confession and desire to serve the Lord.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_314\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mcguirereport.mcguireclan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/16Jun-EBC2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-314\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-314\" alt=\"View from the back from overflow parking area\" src=\"https:\/\/mcguirereport.mcguireclan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/16Jun-EBC2-300x133.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"133\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-314\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">View from the back from overflow parking area<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another older man and his wife were there this morning that we had not seen in 24 years.\u00a0 They immediately greeted us by name.\u00a0 Although we recognized them, we had to ask to find out their names.\u00a0 The last testimony was given by this same elderly man, but it was not what you normally hear.\u00a0 He pulled out his harmonica and began to play an old hymn.\u00a0 Shortly, you could hear the older members begin to sign softly as he played.\u00a0 The tune seemed familiar, but we could not recall the words.\u00a0 You could tell that the congregation was touched by his simple tune.\u00a0 We did remember that he used to frequently play his harmonica during the time we lived in Swaziland.\u00a0 It was then a special treat to hear him play his harmonica while accompanied by one of his peers on a guitar.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_315\" style=\"width: 581px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mcguirereport.mcguireclan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/16Jun-EBC3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-315\" class=\" wp-image-315 \" alt=\"The worship team leads choruses for about the first 45 minutes of the service. Pastor Philips is on the left.\u00a0 Here they are singing, &#8220;Jabulani Africa&#8221; [lyrics below]<\/p><\/div>Just before the sermon, the four young people paid tribute to their fathers.\u00a0 The first three were teenagers, but the fourth was a younger boy who said, &#8220;I love my father, because he reads the Bible to me.&#8221;\u00a0 What a simple, touching tribute to his father!\u00a0 When he finished you could feel the emotion among the congregation, and they then applauded &#8212; a response which is uncommon in this conservative church.<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Deon spoke on God&#8217;s Model for Men and his text was from Philippians 2:19-30.\u00a0 The five points were that godly men should be compassionate, consistent, cooperative, committed and courageous.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_316\" style=\"width: 438px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mcguirereport.mcguireclan.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/16Jun-EBC4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-316\" class=\" wp-image-316 \" alt=\"Ethney on the piano and Thelma on the accordian.  This duo has been helping with music for nearly 40 years! This duo has been helping with music for around 40 years! [Sorry for poor photo quality]<\/p><\/div>At the end of the sermon all the fathers were called to the front to sing a hymn, titled &#8220;I am a man..&#8221;\u00a0 [see lyrics below].\u00a0 Although I do not recall ever singing it before, it was in the hymn book and had the same tune as &#8220;Be still, mysoul&#8221; (Finlandia).\u00a0 Each father then received a &#8216;torch&#8217; (flashlight) as a reminder that we are to be a light to our families and to others.<\/p>\n<p>The service this morning was well attended.\u00a0 The number on the attendance board was 110.<\/p>\n<p>After church we were invited to Ruth&#8217;s house for dinner.\u00a0 Her son, Calvin, and his wife were there.\u00a0 As usual, Ruth put out a big spread &#8212;
